Akro Agate

Akro Agate

The Akro Agate Company was incorporated in Clarksburg, West Virginia in 1914. Production began with glass marbles that were developed with distinctive colors. By the 1930s Akro Agate was using unique colors to produce other products like ashtrays, planters and vases. In the late 1930's and early 1940's the company ventured into the development and production of sets of children's dishes. The company remained in business until 1951. Most Akro items are marked with a crow (A-kro), with marbles in it's beak and claws. If you are collecting Akro Agate there are several good books on the subject that you may want to add to your library. The references include The Collectors Encyclopedia of Akro Agate Glassware by Gene Florence The Complete Line of The Akro Agate Co. by Roger and Claudia Hardy.
