Powder Jars

Powder Jars

Interesting figural vanity and powder room containers were produced by American and foreign glass companies during the twentieth century. The most prolific period of production was the era from the mid 1920’s until the mid 1930’s. This includes a time in America’s past that is often referred to as the “Great Depression.” During this time, designers created numerous powder containers with interesting shapes to persuade a cash starved society to splurge on non-essentials. Manufacturers produced these interesting containers in a multitude of colors. One of the major selling points was the fact that the containers were reusable for any number of other purposes once the original contents were consumed. Some of the most popular items among today’s collectors are both figural and non-figural containers for face and body powder, perfume, bath salts, soap, cold cream and lotions.
