Dancing Girl / Dancing Lady Powder Jar (1925 - 1936) (Crystal, Crystal Satin, Pink Satin, Pink, Green Satin, Blue, Blue Satin, Ultramarine Transparent, Vaseline Transparent )

The Tiffin factory of the U. S. Glass Company produced this "Dancing Girl" powder jar. It is similar to the "Curtsy" powder jar made for Toussant, but the two jars are actually vastly different, in both quality and detail. Distinguishing features that allow collectors to differentiate between the two jars include: 1. The "Curtsy" finial's head is more upright than the "Dancing Girl's" head. 2. The facial features of "Curtsy" are somewhat crude and masculine, whereas the Tiffin Pink Satin Dancing Girl Powder Jar Top Underneathface of "Dancing Girl" is detailed and feminine. 3. On the lid of the "Curtsy" jar, there is a row of four embossed beads between the puffs in the skirt near the lady's downward extended arm. 4. The base of the "Curtsy" jar is usually marked "Toussant Glass." This may also be spelled "Taussaunt" or "Taussant."  The base of the "Dancing Girl" jar is unmarked. 5. The top edge of the base of the "Curtsy" jar is smooth, while the top edge of the base of the "Dancing Girl" jar has a rope rim. This jar may be found in both satin and transparent colors. These U.S. Glass jars were produced between 1925 and 1936 and were sometimes sold as part of a dresser set, that includes two perfumes, a powder jar, and a matching tray. This powder jar is 4 3/4" in diameter and almost 6" tall.

Tiffin / U.S. Glass - The United States Glass Company was formed when 18 or more glass companies combined in 1891 to try to survive trying times as a combined unit.

While the idea behind the formation of this company was a good sound one, the area needed to be supervised and coordinated (during that time period), which involved Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania was too vast to manage well and as a result chaos often prevailed.

After the companies combined, two new plants were built. An automatic facility at Gas City, Indiana, and the hand operation at Tiffin, Ohio. These two companies along with the Glassport, Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh plants became the important U.S. Glass plants.

Tiffin produced quality glassware with delicate etchings. They were known for their use of color.

The Gas City branch produced machine made kitchenware, and dinnerware in colored glass through the 1930s.

The factories in Pittsburgh were known for there decorating . They decorated lamps, tableware and large line of colored glassware and crystal.
