New Martinsville Swans: (Green and Crystal, Red and Crystal, Cobalt and Crystal ,Ebony and Crystal) (1940 - 1960)  New Martinsville had a series of swans made from the 1940s to the 1960s. The most well know Swans were a part of the Janice pattern.  Plain swans were made as well. The popular long shape swan was made to be used as a serving bowl, celery, or relish.  These swan bowls came in a 4", 7", 10 1/2", and 12 1/2" sizes.  These popular serving pieces are often confused with Duncan and Millers swans.  An easy way to tell Duncan's swans from those made by New Martinsville is to observe the area where the swan neck is attached to the base.  Duncan's swans have a raised curved up area at the back of the bowl, above the attachement of swan neck.  New Martinsville swan bases are even (or close to even) where the neck is attached.
