Summit Art Glass (1972-2005)  Summit Art Glass was established in Ravenna, Ohio in 1972.  Over a period of time Russell and JoeAnn Vogelsong purchased about 45 glass moulds. During the early formation of this company the Vogelsong's commissioned  glass companies to produced their glass for them.  They then sold these pieces out of a showroom attached to their home.  In 1978  Summit  purchased about 50 additional moulds from Joseph St. Clair of Elwood, IN. The business continued to grow. In 1980 Summit began making limited edition items.  Their first limited edition piece was a doll figure called Melanie.  The mould for this  figure was redesigned on a much smaller scale and cast from an early Cambridge mould called the Dresden Lady. Melanie was made in limited edition colors and the mould was destroyed after the Melanie production was complete.  Other limited edition pieces followed including a lion, a clown, an elephant and a series of Little Women figures.  After each limited edition production the moulds were again destroyed.

Summit's limited edition items were popular and were instrumental in causing the company to expand.  In 1984 Summit built their own glass factory. The first limited edition figures made at Summit were called "Precious Children".  Pieces made after this time were made at the Summit factory. About this time the Vogelson's purchased an additional 80+ moulds from Westmoreland.  Shortly after that they purchased moulds from Imperial.  In addition to Imperial moulds they also acquired Cambridge moulds that Imperial had previously bought from Cambridge.  The Vogelsons found  experienced workers that had formally worked for the Imperial Glass Company to help them run their new factory.
The Summint mark which is found on some pieces is a V in circle.  Many of the pieces made from the Cambridge , Imperial, and Westmoreland marks still bear their original company marks. It has caused some confusion, but collectors can usually tell the difference between Summit glass and other companies pieces by the colors made.  Summit ceased production of glassware in 2005.  Summit Art Glass has become a collectible in its own right.
