Abels, Wasserberg & Co. (AWCO) (1943 - 1967) -  Abels, Wasserberg & Company is today, largely known as a quality decorating company.  Mark Palmer, probably the most knowledgeable and well known author on Abels and Wasserberg refers to the company as a,  "premier decorating and lighting company." Abels and Wasserberg began using the Charleton trade name in 1943. This innovative company did not make their own glassware, china, or pottery.  Instead, they bought glass and fine china made by other companies.  In the early years most of their purchases were imports.  Later, they purchased most of their glassware from the United States. They decorated these pieces with their own creative designs and sold them under their Charleton label.  Abels and Wasserberg purchased glassware from many companies including Cambridge, Consolidated, Duncan & Miller, Fenton, Fostoria, Heisey, Imperial,  Westmoreland, West Virgina Glass Specialty,  and other glass houses.  Wasserberg and Company filed for bankruptcy in 1967.  At that time their inventory and their trademark were obtained by the Beth Weissman Company.  We are concerned with pieces that were made from the late 1940s to the 1960s.  For a more complete in-depth look at this fantastic company we encourage you to purchase Mark and Lori Palmer's book "The Charleton Line"

The Cambridge Glass Company  produced some the finest and most sought after hand made Elegant Glassware from 1901 until 1958. They made many of the etched patterns that are still popular today. They were renowned for their colors as well as for their beautiful etchings which included Rose Point, Chantilly, Wildflower, Cleo, Apple Blossom, and dozens more not listed.

Cambridge produced many beautiful shapes in array of colors and styles. Some of the colors in the Cambridge listings included Ebony, Azurite, Helio, Primrose, Amber , Ivory, Jade, Peach Blo, Rubina, Cobalt, Emerald, Gold Krystol, Carmen and dozens more. It is no wonder the company realized such a huge success.

One of Cambridge's most popular colored patterns was Caprice. This pattern was produced in many of the transparent colors including LaRosa (pink), and Moonlight Blue. There were over 200 different pieces of Caprice available. The pattern was featured in Ladies Home Journal, House and Garden and many other publications. It is no wonder it was one of the top selling Depression Era patterns.

This Ohio factory was located in Cambridge, Ohio and was one of the largest producers of hand made glassware from the Depression Era into the early 50s.
