Fenton Rosalene Dancing Ladies Vase The Bottom

Rosalene - Rosalene is a heat-sensitive opaque pink glass with white swirls that Fenton introduced in January 1976.  Fenton made 27 different items in Rosalene during the three years this color was in production.  This type of glassware was first made around the turn of the century. Glassware of this type from those years is often referred to as "slag" glass.  During the late 1960s. and early 1970s, Fenton chemist Charley Goe and Frank M. Fenton worked together to re-create glassware with this pink slag appearance.  After numerous trials, success was achieved in 1972.  The formula and process were refined and the first pieces of Rosalene entered the Fenton line in 1976.

Although the color was attractive and sold well, production problems limited Fenton's ability to produce this type of glassware.  Early batches that were made in 1976 were bright pink in color.  Formula changes, made in an effort to prevent the molten glassware from eating through the melting pots, resulted in later runs of Rosalene having a paler pink color.  Acid-dipped Satin-finished Candy Stripe Rosalene lamps entered the line in July 1976. Rosalene was made until 1979 and then was discontinued from the line. In 1989 Rosalene appeared again as part of the Connoisseur collection.  Fenton has since made other specialty pieces in this color.  The original items made in Rosalene from 1976 - 1979 have not been reissued.  Most Rosalene will have a Fenton backstamp allowing you to easily date the items in your collection.
